Greetings All!,

Starting with the basics: Mark is 11, and Kirsten is 8.  Tammy is still home-schooling with Mark in the 6th grade (doing a little 8th grade math) and Kirsten doing a mix of 3rd and 4th grade work.  Kirsten enjoys talking to her friends and reading.  Mark likes computers, he’s read most of the technical manuals in our local public library and he just got an iPOD.  This year both kids tried soccer in the Pinelanders league.  Both Mark and Kirsten are taking piano lessons (Kirsten willingly) and Kirsten takes gymnastics.

Even with diesel fuel at $3.40 per gallon, we are still making good use of our RV, spending 60+ nights away from home again this year.  We have friends who camp too and we’ve done group trips to Pennsylvania (Sight and Sound Theatre) and Cape May (Lima Bean Festival).  Our family also did trips to Williamsburg, VA, Outerbanks, NC and Emerald Isle, NC.  We made our second annual winter escape to Florida in March and managed to stay there the entire month.  This year we are planning to escape to Florida for February AND March
David works for Alcatel-Lucent, which closed the Holmdel location and moved him to Murray Hill.  The traffic and commute is no fun, so he has perfected telecommuting which is working very well.  One downside is that he can be called to work at any time, and with his global support job that’s starting to happen more often.  The upside is that his job is very portable.  With that in mind, our house is now up for sale – but the NJ market is very poor and after 6 months with no offers we have dropped the price (a lot) and begun over again with a new brokerage.  In the meanwhile, the RV now has a scanner/copier/printer and an IP phone.  We use campground WiFi services and David has worked from all over while we camp.  We also added a small gas generator to the RV which allowed us to camp on the beach for a few nights without hookups.
We are now in the process of fixing up the house and clearing out 13 years of stuff.  The garage sale thing didn’t really work for us, (a lot of effort for not that much stuff sold), but we just “discovered” Craig’s list and the first sale there worked well.  We have yet to attempt E-Bay but that could be next. The goal is to downsize and simplify.
The most common thing we are asked is “when you sell the house, where will you go?”  Actually at this point, we are not sure!  We shopped for canal front properties in North Carolina, but have yet to find one that grabbed us.  Maybe by this time next year we will know more. Stay tuned. Wishing you a safe and blessed 2008.
